Your original wood windows, also called “sash-weighted” windows, are an essential part of your house – the way it looks, its charm and its history. These windows, connected by ropes (or sash cord) to weights inside the walls, were hand crafted out of quality materials by the craftsman of that era. But after decades of neglect, they often are painted shut, stuck or are falling apart or working. Another issue is loose and drafty windows.
We have never had a window we couldn’t restore to excellent working condition. Imagine opening your windows with two fingers instead of both arms, your back, your legs and maybe even a hammer and pry bar. Almost all windows of this era open on top and bottom allowing you to quickly and efficiently cool and “air out” your house. These windows can also be weather stripped and insulated to dramatically improve their energy efficiency.
